Some design on a 'Design' blog? *dies* (Bonus feature, no more essay!)

I thought I'd start with the first bit of design I did as a personal project. I only learned InDesign last term, and so wanted to have a go and see what I could do with it. I started with the word claustrophobia, and went from there. By reducing the letterspacing on individual letters, and distorting the horizontal and vertical sizes of the letterforms, I gave the impression of there not being enough space, whilst only using two elements, the heading and the line of text.

A big thank you to the makers of the typefaces:

Damn the Man typeface by [Unknown] (if you know please tell me so I can thank them :) )

Old and New

I've had a bit of a mixed week. Last friday I went to see Watchmen (which was amazing), and the new module started this monday. It started a bit strangely with Pictionese whispers (Pictionary and Chinese Whispers' illegitimate child), but has evolved into the first part of the course I've really felt excited and ambitious about. I've been given the company type of photographer, but given free reign on the specifics (resisting cat-based photography was difficult!), which has so far been productive. Alas though a big essay is hanging over my head, and my choice of designer/collective means that there is no books to look at, which makes things tricky. I'll have to do some epic digging this monday.

And as for the old I mentioned the other side of that massive essay I just wrote, I've decided to take up the violin again. I haven't played since primary school, so it's gonna be a case of learning all over again!

I promise some actual design will be added soon!

First Post

I thought I'd start by introducing myself. I'm Richard, I'm currently studying Graphic Communication in Cardiff. I'll post things like my university design work, some other design work that I think looks cool, and of course the occasional bit of random.

I'll try to keep this updated, and interesting!
